What is Lightning Protection/Surge Protection?

Lightning brings with it a large electrical surge that can not only damage property and endanger life, but can also threaten vital electrical equipment and data. The main and most cost effective measure for protection of structures against physical damage is considered to be lightning protection systems.

BS EN 62305:2006 identifies the requirement of structures to be protected against lightning, in accordance with the Electricity at Work Act 1989.

How often does our Lightning Protection System need to be tested?

BS EN 62305 states that Lightning Protection Systems should be tested at maximum intervals of 12 months. It is usually advised that 11 monthly intervals are undertaken, so that the effects of seasonal variations can be taken into account.
